When you’re up against a deadline or managing multiple moving parts of a campaign, knowing exactly how long your print job will take isn’t just helpful, it’s essential. At CP Direct, we specialize in high-volume print production for larger organizations, which means we understand how important planning and accuracy are to your success. Whether you’re printing inserts, continuous roll forms, or envelopes, here’s what you need to know about how long each stage typically takes, and what you can do to avoid delays.
Pre-Press Prep: 1–2 Business Days (Depending on File Readiness)
Before we can start printing, we need to ensure that your files are properly formatted and production-ready. Common hiccups at this stage include:
- Low-resolution images, or RGB images that should be CMYK
- Missing bleeds or crop marks
- Incorrect dimensions or panel sizes
- Incomplete or missing fonts
The good news? You can avoid most of these issues by following a checklist and submitting files that meet industry standards. We’re always happy to provide a quick review if you’re unsure. The faster your files are ready to go, the faster we can move to production.
Proofing and Approvals: 1–2 Business Days
Once your files are processed, we’ll generate a digital or hard-copy proof for you to review. This is your chance to double-check:
- Spelling and layout
- Placement of folds or perforations
- Ink coverage and alignment
- Branding consistency
- Codes and Mailhouse requirements
Quick turnaround on proof approval keeps your job on track. Delays in this step often come from internal reviews, so build that time into your planning if needed.
Production: 2–5 Business Days
This is where the magic happens. Depending on the complexity and volume of your order, we typically complete production within:
- 2–3 days for continuous roll forms, standard inserts and envelopes
- 3–5 days for larger runs, jobs that finish in the bindery or requiring outsourcing
We’ll always confirm an estimated timeline when we receive your job specs, but larger jobs with specialized operations can take a bit longer. Rest assured, quality and accuracy are never rushed.
Freight Delivery: 1–5 Business Days (Shipping Times May Vary)
After printing, we prep your order for freight pickup. If you’re working with a mail house, we can coordinate the handoff. If you’re shipping to multiple destinations, let us know early so we can build in logistics time.
Summary Timeline (Best Case Scenario):
- Pre-Press + Proofing: 2–4 days
- Production: 2–5 days
- Delivery: 1–5 days
- Total Time: 5–14 business days
